According to a report by Financial Express, PK Purwar, the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has sent a strong-worded letter to the Chief General Managers (CGMs) of 13 circles where the company’s revenues have declined. In the letter, Purwar urged the CGMs to take immediate remedial actions to improve the financial performance of their respective circles.
Purwar emphasized the importance of accountability and mentioned that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and BSNL require the company to take action against non-performers. The report stated that five circles have reached a “borderline negative” revenue status, five circles have experienced a significant decline, and three circles have slipped into a “critically negative territory” within the past year.
Last year in July, the government approved a revival package worth Rs 1.64 lakh crore for BSNL and MTNL, with the expectation that BSNL would become profitable by FY26–27.
BSNL has witnessed a considerable decrease in revenues in several regions, including West Bengal, UP East, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar, Orissa, Bihar, and Karnataka. Additionally, its revenue has weakened in Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, North East, and Jharkhand.
